It's been a while
August 4th, 2009First off some more eye crack, also contains audio crack. I still love these guys and their stuff is good to just sit back and absorb - one day I'll even know what they're saying! Lol as if... So I present more Urbangarde
Next up Saya No Uta - a marvelous piece of lovecraftian horror plus naughty loli tentical monsters. I've heard tell that this visual novel doesn't have a good end - I beg to differ. The ending I got was great, so great I felt no need to play the two bad ends.
So in the game this is how people look to you,
But a saviour is at hand to save you from the hideousness,
Sadly this guy didn't have support,
It's a good twisted romance story, and it's also interesting the way it looks at perception and its effect on mindset (no longer seeing humans as humans even though you know you are leads you to no longer view them as humans - if you see what I mean.)
If you're looking for a well put together, dark, violent, erotic, sinister and interesting piece of work I highly recommend it. If you're scared loli, nastiness, gore, monsters, etc... give the game a wide berth.
Anyway - KiraKira
June 29th, 2009This is a game that can and is going to (it has a PS2 version coming out) stand on its own without any smut - and to be honest I havn't come across the dirtyness yet lol.
The characters are good fun, and the protagonist is only slightly irritating unlike most of these games where your character is just a dick.
The comedy friend is very funny (a huge scary muscle bound guy with the heart of a puppy), the genius genki girl is great fun and the diligant older sister type is very nice.
The fact that you end up a cross dresser is hysterical, and a gag that doesn't get old in my opinion.
The music is first class for the most part.
The fact that they call Johnny Rotten Johnny Lotten and they call the Clash the Crash is hysterical - and shows a lack of punk knowledge amongst the translators and proof readers.
The editing is pretty poor, but I can deal with that.
The art is nice, I don't like the Kana style, and I don't really need the nookie that's inevitably kitbashed onto the end of the show.
ways to save ero
June 26th, 2009Matt's awsome idea corner.
So first idea to save the industry (or more like an opportunity)*snips from my post on pori
"I had a thought – could this infact be an opportunity for jast (bare with me a moment)most of the stuff on the list is completly legal in the states and they’d have quite a hard time banning it due to those rule things the Americans have (American people may be pretty mad but their Courts are quite good and you can wrap stuff up in courts for decades – and yanks hate being told what to do.)
Now if the Japanese companies are heavily reduced in their abilities to operate in Japan could they not operate via JAST the companies transfer rights to JAST have a nice royalty deal and Jast release the game from their US branch (subbed of course), the Japanese fans can then import at higher costs netting jast and the original developer a nice return."
Thought number two;
Games companies could split into two, an art company and a text game company (bare with me) the text game company has all the writers and story people, they make a "text adventure game" that has hooks for images but no images.
The art company meanwhile makes art that will hook into the "text adventure game" and sells it as art packs. Now once the text game is out any company could make art packs for it, also any writing company could make text adventure games compatible with various art packs or parts of them.
The two things are seperate and sold by seperate companies either could be enjoyed on their own, one as a novel the other as a set of naughty slides, bring the two together and you have magic. It also seems like a uniquely Japanese solution, much like tentical porn and little black lines.
The other thing is these art packs could be used by anyone for games as the art pack publishers couldn't say "you must use it with these titles" as that would make it too much as though they were a single product (even though they are - but arn't) so it means people who can't draw can write games that can be used with legit quality image pack. And hey if you're an awsome artist then you can make art packs and sell them to go with various games packs.

Ero Games Banned?
June 24th, 2009Thanks to pressure from UNICEF (whose good will ambassador of 25 seemed to be getting it on with a 16 year old - but oooo well), yanks, LDP, and others, the Japanese seem to have banned more or less every viable ero game catagory, including School Council and Shoujo.
End of ero as we know it? I suppose so, I can't even be bothered to rant about it.

However now how long till such things get banned in anime, doujin, manga, etc. I mean shoujo, u18, so on and so forth.
